Political reasons hindering foreign investment in Diamer-Bhasha Dam, committee briefed
Islamabad: The National Assembly’s Committee on Economic Affairs has been informed that due to political reasons, no foreign investor is currently willing to discuss investment in the Diamer-Bhasha Dam. Secretary of the Economic Affairs Division briefed the committee, stating that funds allocated for the dam are presently being utilized solely for developmental programs.
“The promised $10 billion for flood victims, pledged at the Geneva Conference, has so far only realized $3 billion,” it was disclosed during the session. The committee has requested further assistance for flood victims in the next meeting.
Secretary of Economic Affairs clarified, “The government is currently obtaining a loan from banks itself, while another loan requires government guarantee, a process many government departments follow.”
