Political Leaders Discuss the Current Situation in Balochistan and Pakistan’s National Policies

Islamabad:Political leaders from various parties have voiced their concerns over the ongoing issues in Balochistan and the country’s national policies.

**Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran**, a senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League (N), acknowledged that the situation in Balochistan is far from ideal. However, he emphasized the province’s diversity, noting it as a “bouquet” consisting of various ethnic groups such as Baloch, Pashtun, Saraiki, Sindhi, Hazara, Khetran, and others. He criticized the narrative of independence or resource control as a “sham” and argued that it was a way for certain individuals to gain benefits through these claims.

Khetran posed a fundamental question to those who have taken up arms and their backers: “Where is the wealth and weaponry coming from? How do they possess such vast lands, orchards, and factories?”

**ANP leader Thamar Haroon Bilour** suggested that the only way forward for resolving the issues in Balochistan is through negotiations. Reflecting on past operations, Bilour stated that while limited success had been achieved, the lack of consistent follow-up from Islamabad or Rawalpindi had rendered those efforts less effective. He expressed concern over the state’s fluctuating policies, adding that many religious leaders show leniency towards elements that continue to harm Pakistan’s civilians.

Meanwhile, **Shaukat Yousafzai** from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) emphasized that the government already has a National Action Plan (NAP) in place. However, its implementation has been lacking. He pointed out that the responsibility of enforcing this plan lies with the government, and the voices of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should be given greater importance. Yousafzai also urged that forums discussing the issue should be held regularly, stressing that tackling terrorism should be the nation’s top priority, while also addressing other pressing issues like the sugar mafia.

These discussions have highlighted the need for a cohesive approach, where all political stakeholders come together to resolve the problems in Balochistan and ensure the safety and prosperity of its people.
