Khyber Pakhtunkhwa:Pakistan, the police force remains under constant threat from militants, with ongoing reports of casualties. According to recent data from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), 76 police officers have been martyred and 113 others injured so far this year alone.
The district of D.I. Khan has witnessed the highest toll, with 23 officers martyred and an equal number injured. Bannu reported 12 casualties, while in Bajaur, 11 officers lost their lives and 32 were wounded. Peshawar also saw significant losses, with 11 officers martyred and an equal number injured in the line of duty.
Government officials attribute the rise in violence to the influx of modern weaponry, including thermal guns and other sophisticated arms, following the withdrawal of American forces from neighboring Afghanistan. Provincial authorities have initiated efforts to equip the police force with modern weapons to counter these escalating threats.
Last year, a total of 184 police officers were martyred and 408 were injured in terrorist incidents across the province. The recent spike in casualties underscores the persistent challenges faced by security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in maintaining law and order amidst ongoing militant activities.
