Police Foil Attempted Child Marriage in Karachi, Several Arrested Including Parents

Karachi:Authorities have successfully prevented the marriage of a **13-year-old girl** in **Karachi** and arrested several individuals, including her parents, in connection with the attempt.
A joint operation by **South Police** and the **Women and Child Protection Cell** in the **Hijrat Colony** area led to the foiling of the child marriage attempt. The police, acting on a tip-off, intervened just in time to stop the ceremony. A case has been registered against the accused, including the girl’s parents, under the **Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act**.
According to a statement issued by the **South District Police**, the attempt to marry off the underage girl was thwarted due to the timely action of the Women and Child Protection Cell and the South Police. After receiving information, the Cell immediately contacted **SSP South** **Mattoor Ali**, who directed the **Civil Lines Police** to take action. The team swiftly arrived at the location and began an investigation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that preparations for the **girl’s marriage** were underway. However, the marriage was not allowed to proceed due to the police’s prompt response.
The police team collected official documents from the family, confirming that the girl was only **13 years old**. Based on her statement and available evidence, the authorities arrested the parents and other involved parties. A case, **FIR No. 97/2025**, has been registered under **Sections 3/5 of the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act** and **Section 511** for attempting to commit an offense.
**SSP South** stated that the police will continue to take strict action against child marriage practices and any illegal customs that harm children, ensuring the safety and protection of minors.
