PM Shehbaz Sharif Condemns Anti-Saudi Remarks, Stresses Saudi Arabia’s Unwavering Support for Pakistan
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned recent remarks made against Saudi Arabia, stating that no greater hostility could exist towards the Kingdom. Addressing a gathering at the inauguration of the Kachhi Canal restoration project in Tunisah, the Prime Minister emphasized that Saudi Arabia has always supported Pakistan, offering financial, economic, and diplomatic assistance without asking for anything in return.
In his speech, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for Pakistan, across various governments, has been indispensable. “Saudi Arabia is a brotherly nation, and no amount of praise is enough for their contributions. The recent statement against Saudi Arabia is the height of animosity,” he said, further adding that the nation would stand united to thwart any attempts to spread anti-Saudi propaganda and harm Pakistan’s ties with its long-time ally.
The Prime Minister also touched upon the ongoing efforts to restore the Kachhi Canal, which had faced setbacks during the tenure of former military ruler General (R) Pervez Musharraf, who, according to Sharif, had mismanaged the project by awarding contracts without a tender process, resulting in the waste of national resources. However, he noted that the project was revived during the tenure of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government in 2018 and further rehabilitated after the devastating floods of 2022.
Sharif stressed that completing the second phase of the Kachhi Canal project remains a critical challenge to bring water to drought-prone areas like Dera Bugti, aiming to transform barren land into fertile grounds for agriculture.
