PM Orders Stricter Measures Against Petrol Smuggling, Urges Quick Installation of Cement Industry Video Analytics
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to take tougher action against petrol smuggling in the country. Presiding over a meeting to review the national economic situation and the digitization efforts of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of a crackdown on smuggled fuel. He pointed out that due to a significant reduction in petrol and diesel prices, petroleum sales in Pakistan reached the highest level in 25 months, hitting 1.58 million tons in November 2024, which he termed as a very positive development.
The Prime Minister also noted a 15% year-on-year increase in the sale of petroleum products, indicating a recovery in the energy market. In addition, he urged the swift completion of video analytics installation in the cement industry to improve monitoring and oversight.
Speaking about FBR’s digitization efforts, the Prime Minister called it a landmark reform in the government’s economic policy, with positive outcomes beginning to emerge. He further stated that the benefits of well-timed policies and decisions are becoming evident and will prove beneficial for the country’s economy.
