Peshawar Sees Surge in Crime in 2024: Annual Police Report Reveals

Peshawar:The police in Peshawar have released their annual report for 2024, revealing a concerning rise in various crimes, including murder, kidnapping, theft, and robbery.
According to the report, a total of **8,811 cases** of crime were registered in Peshawar city this year. This includes a disturbing rise in **kidnapping**, with **27 children under the age of 14** reported to have been abducted. However, despite efforts, police have not been able to apprehend any of the **26 suspects** nominated in these cases.
The report also highlights **557 incidents** of **violent crime**, such as **disputes, old enmities, bloody robberies, and property-related conflicts**. In a tragic turn, the city witnessed **615 murders** this year, with **798 out of 1,380 nominated suspects** arrested in connection with these killings. The remaining suspects are still on the run. In addition, **843 cases of attempted murder** were reported across the city’s various police stations.
The police report also sheds light on the growing issues of **theft** and **robbery**. A total of **3,502 cases** of such crimes have been reported in 2024. The report further states that, out of the **8,811 suspects** wanted in various cases, **6,272 have been arrested** by the police.
Additionally, the report reveals that **14 suspects** involved in **robbery** were killed during **police encounters**, while **257 others** were arrested, including **180 suspects** who were taken into custody in injured conditions following police shootouts.
This sharp increase in crime raises serious concerns about the security situation in Peshawar, despite ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat criminal activities.
