Peshawar Police Barred from Participating in Political Protests Ahead of PTI’s November 24 Rally
Islamabad:In a preemptive move ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned protest in Islamabad on November 24, the Peshawar police have been ordered not to participate in any political rallies or protests.
The directive comes after several serving officers of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police were detained during a PTI protest at D-Chowk, Islamabad, in October. These officers had joined the demonstration as protesters, which led to their arrest.
A memorandum issued by the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar stated that no police personnel from Peshawar would be allowed to participate in any political protests or gatherings outside the city. The memo further emphasized that police officers assigned to political representatives have also been given clear instructions to refrain from engaging in any political activities.
The notice also warned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against any officer found in violation of this directive, signaling the seriousness of the matter. The move is seen as an effort by the provincial government to prevent any potential unrest or complications involving law enforcement personnel during the upcoming political protests.
