Islamabad:On the occasion of Independence Day, renowned YouTuber and artist Aoun Ali Khosha, known for his viral song “Bil Bil Pakistan,” has reportedly been detained by unidentified individuals.
Aoun Khosha’s brother, Ali Sher Khosha, took to social media platform X to announce that armed men had taken his brother into custody in the middle of the night. He urged users to pray for his brother and to share the news widely, emphasizing the critical nature of the situation for their family.
The news of Khosha’s detention has sparked significant backlash from users online. Many believe that the detention is linked to Khosha’s satirical song about rising electricity bills, and view it as a punishment for his critique.
One user remarked on the irony that producing a parody about the increase in utility bills has led to such drastic measures, criticizing the situation as a shameful overreaction.
The official Twitter account of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) condemned the detention, urging for the release of Khosha and all other detainees. The party described the actions as unacceptable and illegal, calling for respect for the public’s freedom and moral values.
Imran Afzal Raja, a PTI representative, defended Khosha, describing him as a well-meaning artist who operates within ethical boundaries and has never demeaned anyone. Raja criticized the idea of resolving issues by abducting individuals and suggested that if such actions continue, it would be better for Pakistan to choose a different approach.
Internationally acclaimed poetess Noshi Gilani also commented on the situation, highlighting that Khosha had been abducted by masked men.
Wajahat Sami criticized the detention, suggesting that Khosha’s comedic song, which highlighted the irony of celebrating independence while facing poverty, was a genuine reflection of the public sentiment.
Khosha’s song “Bil Bil Pakistan,” released on Independence Day, had gained rapid popularity and was well-received for its humorous yet poignant commentary on the state of the nation. Users had praised Khosha for effectively capturing public sentiment through his creative content.
