Pakistani Woman Marries Indian Man After Social Media Friendship
Islamabad:According to reports from Indian media, Mahwish, a 25-year-old Pakistani woman, has married Rahman, a young man from Rajasthan, India, after initially becoming friends on Facebook.
Mahwish was running a beauty parlor in Islamabad, while Rahman was working as a transporter in Kuwait. Both became friends on social media and eventually decided to get married.
Mahwish stated that after consulting with her sister and sister-in-law, she proposed to Rahman for marriage in March 2022. Three days later, they solemnized their marriage via video conference. Subsequently, in 2023, they performed Umrah in Saudi Arabia and formalized their marriage in Makkah.
They announced their marriage on social media and also informed their families through these platforms.
According to reports in the Indian media, Mahwish arrived at the Wagah border with her family from Islamabad on July 25th and entered India on a 45-day tourist visa. Rahman’s family welcomed her and brought her to their village in Pathisar, Rajasthan.
Upon arriving in Rajasthan, Mahwish’s presence triggered investigations by local intelligence agencies, and the local police are also inquiring about her.
According to reports, Mahwish was previously married to a resident of Badami Bagh in 2006, with whom she has two sons. However, they separated in 2018, and her former husband remarried.
On the other hand, Rahman married Farida in 2011, with whom he has two children. Due to strained relations between the husband and wife, Farida resides with her parents.
Following reports in the Indian media about Rahman’s second marriage, his first wife, Farida, has filed a complaint at the local police station accusing Mahwish of possible espionage and seeking legal action against her.
Farida claims that her husband has not divorced her yet, making his second marriage illegal, and she is prepared to fight a legal battle against it.
