Pakistani Parliamentarians Respond to U.S. Letter on Imran Khan
Islamabad: In response to a letter from 62 U.S. lawmakers regarding former Prime Minister Imran Khan, 160 members of Pakistan’s Parliament have written to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The parliamentarians expressed concerns about what they view as interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs.
In their letter, the members criticized the unfounded political narrative promoted by a specific political party, raising objections to the American government’s involvement. Notable signatories include Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Naveed Qamar, Mustafa Kamal, Asiya Naz Tanoli, Khalid Magsi, among others.
The letter emphasized their responsibility as parliamentarians to inform U.S. Congress members through the Prime Minister about Pakistan’s ongoing democratic challenges, which have been exacerbated by extremist politics. They urged the government to take a stand against the campaign aimed at tarnishing the reputation of political processes and state institutions.
