Pakistan Unveils Indigenous Long-Range Air Surveillance Radar System at IDEAS 2024
Islamabad:At the ongoing IDEAS defense exhibition in Karachi, Pakistan has showcased its first-ever indigenous long-range air surveillance radar system. The system, developed by Pakistan, marks a significant step towards enhancing the country’s defense capabilities, especially in the era of modern warfare.
Owais Rauf, Director of Blue Search Private Limited, highlighted the changing nature of warfare, where drones and high-speed missile systems are playing an increasingly vital role. He pointed out that from the Russia-Ukraine war to various global conflicts, missiles and drones are crucial in everything from military transportation surveillance to devastating attacks on enemy targets.
“Radar systems are crucial for early warning of enemy strikes and for monitoring airspace borders,” Rauf explained. He noted that Pakistan had been relying on imported radar systems for its defense needs, often facing international restrictions. However, with the development of the AM-350S radar system, Pakistan now has its own advanced solution to meet these needs.
The AM-350S radar, which offers surveillance up to 450 kilometers, is mounted on a mobile platform that allows for rapid deployment in any location. This project, a collaboration between the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) and the private sector, has garnered interest from Pakistan’s friendly countries as well, signaling its potential for international partnerships.
Experts are hopeful that this breakthrough will lead Pakistan to develop a comprehensive air defense system in the near future, bolstering its national security.
