Islamabad:In a significant decision amidst objections from India, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved the budget for the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan next year. The ICC’s four-day annual meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka, focused on drafting new regulations and discussing various matters, including the T20 World Cup.
Despite India’s preference for a hybrid model or relocating the event, the ICC did not entertain any discussions regarding shifting the venue to another location during the meeting. The ICC expressed satisfaction with the steps taken by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the Champions Trophy, although India could still potentially create complications regarding the event being held in Pakistan.
Previously, during the Asia Cup, the Indian board cited governmental permissions as a reason for not sending their team to Pakistan. Should a similar stance be taken now, Pakistan may seek a written response from the Indian side.
