Pakistan Sets Worst T20 Record in History with Heavy Defeat Against New Zealand

Pakistan cricket team has set the worst record in its T20 history following a heavy defeat against New Zealand in the first T20 match.

On Sunday in Christchurch, New Zealand outclassed Pakistan, winning the match by 9 wickets. New Zealand’s captain won the toss and opted to bowl first, as Pakistan’s batting line-up collapsed for just 91 runs. The team was all-out in a disappointing performance.

In response, New Zealand easily chased down the target of 92 runs, losing only one wicket, in just 10.1 overs, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

This defeat marked Pakistan’s worst-ever T20 performance, as New Zealand reached the target in just 59 balls fewer than the allotted 20 overs. This is now the biggest margin of defeat in terms of balls in T20 international history for Pakistan. Previously, in 2018, Australia chased down a target against Pakistan in 55 balls fewer.

It is worth noting that Pakistan’s worst-ever T20I chase also came against New Zealand in 2016 in Wellington, where Pakistan was bowled out for 101 runs while chasing a target of 196, losing by 95 runs.

The second T20 of the five-match series between Pakistan and New Zealand will take place on Tuesday.
