Lahore: Due to the recent hike in petroleum prices, Pakistan Railways has once again increased the fares for passenger trains. The railway department has issued a notification regarding the fare hike, stating that a one percent increase has been applied across all classes including Economy, AC Standard, AC Business, AC Parlor, and AC Sleeper.
According to the notification, the fare increase applies to Mail, Express, and Intercity passenger trains, as well as all trains operated under public-private partnerships. The revised fares will come into effect from Friday, July 19, and all Divisional Superintendents have been directed to update the fare tables accordingly.
It is notable that despite previous decreases in petroleum prices, no relief was passed on to passengers by the railway department. However, with the recent rise in fuel costs, Pakistan Railways has opted to implement a fare hike once again.
