Pakistan Denies Reports of Providing Shaheen Missiles to Iran, Affirms Commitment to Regional Peace
Islamabad: The Pakistani Foreign Office has denied reports suggesting that Pakistan has supplied Shaheen missiles to Iran. In a weekly briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch clarified that there is no truth to these claims.
During the briefing, Baloch highlighted that Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister participated in an extraordinary OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) meeting addressing the current situation in Palestine. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need to continue humanitarian aid to Palestine without interruption.
Baloch also mentioned that on ASEAN Day, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister extended congratulations on behalf of Pakistan. Furthermore, August 5 marked the fifth anniversary of Kashmir’s “Youm-e-Istihsal” (Day of Exploitation), with Pakistan reaffirming its diplomatic and moral support for its Kashmiri brethren. She criticized Indian media for its propaganda against Pakistan.
The spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s stance on resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions. On the matter of recent attacks on Donald Trump in the U.S., Baloch stated that Pakistani officials are in continuous contact with American authorities and are awaiting details on the situation.
Regarding relations with Bangladesh, Baloch noted that Pakistan and Bangladesh have had positive relations for a long time. Pakistan expressed condolences to the Bangladeshi people and government and congratulated the new Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government. The Pakistani High Commissioner attended the swearing-in ceremony.
In the wake of the Iran-Israel conflict, Baloch revealed that the Acting Iranian Foreign Minister contacted Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister via phone. During the OIC’s extraordinary session, the Acting Iranian Foreign Minister met with Pakistani officials. Baloch reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining peace in the region.
The spokesperson also addressed concerns about the recent U.S. Congress bill on India-U.S. defense cooperation, expressing Pakistan’s reservations. Baloch stressed that friendly nations should not be targeted and expressed hope that the U.S. Congress will play a role in improving relations with Pakistan.
Additionally, Baloch congratulated Arshad Nadeem on winning a gold medal for Pakistan, acknowledging the nation’s pride in his achievement.
