Pakistan Coast Guards Seize 10 Trawlers in Anti-Illegal Fishing Operation
Othal:The Pakistan Coast Guards have carried out successful operations against illegal fishing (trawling) and smuggling in the country’s maritime territory, seizing 10 trawlers during operations in November and December. According to a press release by the Coast Guards, the seizures have been welcomed by local fishermen, who are often affected by the harmful practice of illegal trawling.
Trawling, a prohibited fishing method, not only causes severe damage to marine ecosystems but also disrupts the livelihoods of local fishermen. Furthermore, trawlers involved in illegal fishing activities are often linked to other criminal activities, including the smuggling of weapons and drugs.
The Pakistan Coast Guards emphasized their commitment to performing their duties effectively and without external pressure. They reiterated that they will continue to safeguard the coastal areas and the seas, playing a key role in preventing smuggling and other illegal activities, while contributing to the betterment of the national economy. The Coast Guards’ efforts are seen as a crucial step in protecting both the environment and the local fishing community.
