Pakistan and Russia Sign 8 Agreements Including Bilateral Trade Deal
Industrial and Economic Cooperation, Educational Partnerships, and Insulin Production Agreements Also Finalized
Islamabad: During the 9th Inter-Governmental Commission meeting held in Moscow, Pakistan and Russia signed eight agreements, including a key deal to enhance bilateral trade. The meeting was attended by Pakistan’s Minister for Energy, Sardar Owais Ahmed Laghari, along with his delegation.
Among the agreements, notable ones included cooperation in the industrial sector and a pact to boost trade and economic ties between the two nations. Additionally, agreements were signed between COMSATS and Peshawar University with Russian educational institutions. Another significant deal was related to the joint production of insulin.
The National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Russian university to foster technical education and training.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum, Musaddiq Malik, clarified that no agreement had been made regarding the purchase of crude oil from Russia. He stated that talks with Russia regarding oil imports were ongoing but emphasized that no new oil cargo deal had been signed at the government level. Malik confirmed that Pakistan would not be importing new oil shipments beyond previous contracts and that the country currently had surplus LNG.
The agreements signed during the meeting reflect deepening cooperation between the two countries across multiple sectors, from trade and industry to education and healthcare.
