Islamabad: Pakistani and Chinese business firms have finalized an agreement to establish a joint project aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s leather industry, facilitated by the IMF’s support.
The leather industry, once considered Pakistan’s second-largest after textiles, has seen a gradual decline in recent decades. It is now poised to play a pivotal role in sectors prioritized by the IMF.
Globally, China leads in leather exports, producing an annual 4 billion square feet of leather. Pakistani-made leather goods such as handbags, shoes, suits, and belts are in demand worldwide, yet their production has not received adequate attention.
Through collaboration with China, Pakistan aims to revitalize its leather industry and provide global exposure for Pakistani leather products. The joint venture with China opens opportunities for new businesses and enhances existing ones, marking a potential resurgence in trade prospects.
