Islamabad:Pakistan and Chinese business entities have joined forces to bolster Pakistan’s leather industry with the establishment of a collaborative project. Facilitated under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), this agreement marks a significant step forward in promoting economic cooperation between the two nations.
Pakistan’s leather industry, once a prominent sector alongside textiles, has faced challenges and gradual decline in recent years. Recognizing its potential as a key sector under CPEC, efforts are underway to revitalize and expand its capabilities.
China, a global leader in leather production with an annual output of approximately 4 billion square feet, presents a valuable partner for Pakistan. There is substantial international demand for Pakistani leather products such as handbags, briefcases, suits, and belts, yet manufacturing and export capacities need to be enhanced.
Through this collaboration, Pakistan aims not only to revive its leather industry but also to leverage China’s expertise and market access to promote Pakistani leather goods globally. The joint initiative is expected to create new business opportunities and enhance existing trade relations, fostering economic growth and development in both countries.
