Pak Suzuki Shuts Down Plant in Protest Over Auto Parts Clearance Delays
Lahore: Pak Suzuki Motors has shut down its plant in protest after experiencing delays in the clearance of vehicle parts at the port for over a month and a half. The company stated that despite paying billions in demurrage and detention charges, the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) auto parts have not been cleared from the port for 45 days. This delay has halted vehicle production and disrupted tax and duty collection for the government.
The Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) and other industry groups have urged the government to implement the Auto Policy 2021-26, warning that without such action, new investments will be deterred. The company also reported that several auto parts manufacturers have been forced to cut thousands of jobs due to halted production.
