Opposition Parties Demand Immediate General Elections and Resignation of Current Government

Opposition parties, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), have called for immediate general elections in the country. Following a meeting of opposition parties at the residence of former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that all parties agreed the February 8 elections were rigged.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman demanded that the government immediately resign and announce new elections. He also called for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, Sardar Sikander Sultan Raja, as his constitutional term has ended, and consultations should take place for a new appointment.
Asad Qaiser, former Speaker of the National Assembly and senior PTI leader, emphasized the need for the supremacy of the constitution and law, expressing concern over the country’s situation and the need for a long struggle to ensure constitutional rights.
Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, while speaking to the media, echoed the demand for new elections as the solution to the country’s problems. He also highlighted that the opposition had discussed political, economic, and security issues, and all parties agreed that the current government does not represent the people. Additionally, they demanded the release of political prisoners.
