One Year of Shehbaz Sharif’s Government Celebrated with Controversial Ad

It has been a year since Shehbaz Sharif’s government came into power. To mark this milestone, the Government of Pakistan released an advertisement showcasing how exemplary the past year under Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership has been. The ad, titled *”When the leader is Shehbaz, then why not let Pakistan soar?”* features a young girl meeting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. In the ad, she tells him, *”People say everything has gone wrong, and it will take a long time to fix, but you have lifted Pakistan, which was falling, in just one year.”*
In response, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif tells the girl, *”Our collective efforts and the prayers of millions of Pakistanis, with Allah’s grace, have helped Pakistan rise. The country is ready for take-off. It is ready for development and prosperity. We will make Pakistan a great nation.”*
When the girl asks, *”What should we do next?”* Shehbaz Sharif responds, *”We must eliminate the poison being spread by Pakistan’s enemies. We need to protect it from troublemakers and mischief-makers. We must foster patience, tolerance, unity, and solidarity within the nation. Only then will this nation become great. We need to look forward, not backward.”*
The ad quickly went viral on social media, sparking a range of comments from users.
Some users, like Ihtisham Haq, questioned, *”Have you ever seen a Prime Minister make an advertisement like this?”* While Halima expressed support by saying, *”Prime Minister, we are with you every step of the way in your noble efforts.”*
One user praised the creative idea behind the ad, stating, *”Whoever planned the idea for this video certainly deserves praise and admiration.”*
However, others criticized it. Malihah Hashmi mocked the ad, saying, *”In Shehbaz Sharif’s overacting-filled new script, the only thing missing is his son’s favorite phrase: ‘Kids! Corruption happens, it’s all part of the game, and the country will move forward like this.'”*
Haider Naqvi pointed out the irony, saying, *”When this ad was being made, the Prime Minister likely asked, ‘Who will watch this?’ The response was, ‘Just make the ad, PTI supporters will show it to everyone,’ and sure enough, PTI and their allies didn’t disappoint.”*
One Twitter user criticized the ad, writing, *”They prove every day that not only are they uneducated, but they also don’t make any effort.”*
Another user, Rahman, pointed out the contrast, stating, *”World leaders don’t make such ads because their work is visible to people. But in Pakistan, the Prime Minister funds TV channels for ads, and now, no celebrity is willing to appear in his ads, so Shehbaz Sharif decided to appear himself.”*
The ad continues to spark mixed reactions, with some appreciating it and others mocking its content.
