Nuclear and Missile Programs Essential for Pakistan’s Defense, Asserts Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD: In a statement in the Senate, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar emphasized that Pakistan’s nuclear and missile programs are designed solely for the country’s defense and security. Speaking on the floor of the Senate, Dar responded to the growing spread of misinformation, urging caution in the face of misleading news reports.
Dar pointed out a recent incident where a video clip allegedly involving former US President Donald Trump was circulating. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the video was generated by artificial intelligence (AI). He warned that such fabricated content could have serious implications, stressing the need for vigilance.
The Deputy Prime Minister also discussed his recent interactions with foreign diplomats, mentioning that the foreign ministers of Oman and Iran kept him updated on the situation. He highlighted Pakistan’s active role in the UN Security Council meetings, with Iran publicly thanking Pakistan for its diplomatic support.
Dar noted the rise of fake news since June 13, including a false interview purportedly from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which was actually from 2011. He emphasized that the ongoing geopolitical tensions are not to be taken lightly, labeling the current situation as a serious conflict. He further revealed that Iran’s Foreign Minister had maintained regular communication with him during recent negotiations.
To address the growing crisis, Dar mentioned that Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had activated its Crisis Unit, handling over 500 pilgrims and working to manage the spread of misleading and harmful information. He concluded by reiterating that war is no joke and the country must take the spread of fake news seriously while clarifying any misunderstandings.
Finally, Dar reaffirmed that Pakistan’s nuclear and missile programs are a vital component of the country’s self-defense strategy.
