Dhaka:Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus has declared Bangladesh a free nation following the end of Sheikh Hasina’s rule. In a recent interview, Dr. Yunus described Bangladesh as liberated after the removal of Sheikh Hasina, attributing the previous state of the country to Hasina’s authoritarian approach.
Dr. Yunus commented that under Hasina’s leadership, Bangladesh was akin to an occupied country due to her dictatorial style and desire to control everything. He noted that now, with Hasina gone, every citizen of Bangladesh feels a sense of freedom.
He explained that the violence and protests from demonstrators were expressions of anger against Sheikh Hasina’s regime. Dr. Yunus expressed hope that the same youth who played a role in overthrowing Hasina’s government would now guide the country in the right direction and lead it forward.
Reports indicate that Sheikh Hasina’s government had filed 190 cases against Dr. Yunus, and he is currently out on bail. Following the fall of Hasina’s government, student movements in Bangladesh have rejected military rule and are calling for the establishment of an interim government under Dr. Yunus’s leadership.
