Nasir Somro, World’s Tallest Man from Pakistan, Laid to Rest in His Hometown

Nasir Somro, renowned for his towering height, was laid to rest in his ancestral town of Shikarpur, Sindh, amid sighs and sorrow following his death after a prolonged illness. Somro, who held the title of the world’s tallest person, passed away at the age of 55.

Born in 1973 in Shikarpur, Nasir Somro initially received his education in his hometown before moving to Karachi, where he became widely recognized for his extraordinary height. Standing at an impressive 7 feet 9 inches, Nasir Somro earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records, making him an internationally known figure.

His remarkable stature led to him being employed by Pakistan’s national airline, thanks to a government job offer. However, despite his global recognition, Somro’s family expressed their disappointment at the lack of support from the government during his long battle with respiratory and joint issues, which eventually led to his death.

Nasir Somro is survived by his brother and three sisters. Following his death, President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended their condolences.

In accordance with his wishes, Somro was buried in his hometown of Shikarpur, where he was laid to rest with great respect and emotion. His passing has left a void in the hearts of those who admired him.

Nasir Somro was known for his towering height, which was once a distinguishing feature in Pakistan, a title he shared with Pakistani scholar Chana, before the title was later claimed by Zia Rashid from Multan, who stands at 8 feet tall.

Somro had previously been the subject of false rumors, including claims of his death in May 2019, which were debunked by the French news agency AFP.
