Islamabad:The Nairobi High Court has declared the killing of journalist Arshad Sharif by Kenyan police officers as unlawful and unconstitutional, following a petition by his widow, Javeria Sadiq. Justice Stella Mutuku issued the ruling, emphasizing human rights violations in the incident near Magadi in October 2022. Initially deemed a case of mistaken identity by Kenyan authorities, subsequent investigations revealed the allegations against military officials and others involved in the murder to be baseless. The court also ordered Sharif’s family to receive compensation of Rs. 21.7 million, with a 30-day window for the government to appeal the decision, during which the execution of the payment will be suspended
