NADRA to Install Self-Service Kiosks for Easier CNIC Changes
Islamabad: In a move aimed at providing convenience to citizens, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has decided to install self-service kiosks for making changes to the Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs). This new system will simplify the process of updating or replacing CNICs without the need for long queues and wait times.
The self-service kiosks will initially be set up in Karachi, allowing citizens to renew their smart CNICs or obtain a new one in case of loss. The kiosks will be installed in NADRA Mega Centers, and later expanded to airports, railway stations, and shopping malls for greater accessibility.
NADRA Assistant Director, Ammar Haider, revealed that the self-service kiosks were showcased at the IDEAS exhibition. The next phase will involve trial runs of the automated system, followed by its installation in various mega centers across the country. Although the first installation will be in Karachi, a similar kiosk has already been set up at NADRA’s mega center in Islamabad.
Haider explained that the self-service kiosk allows users to complete 8 to 9 data entry steps for CNIC renewal. The process includes entering personal details via a keyboard, biometric verification, iris scanning, a photo capture, and selecting between urgent or normal processing options. After completing the steps, users will receive a QR code for further processing.
