NAB Summons Sindh Food Department Officials Over Alleged Corruption in Wheat Procurement

Karachi:The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned officials from the Sindh Food Department in connection with an alleged corruption case regarding wheat procurement.
According to a notification issued by NAB, former Secretary of the Sindh Food Department, Khurram Shehzad Omar, former Director of the department, Imdad Shah, and various District Food Controllers (DFCs) have been summoned to the NAB office in Sukkur on March 21.
These officials are accused of corruption in the wheat procurement process and the disappearance of wheat stocks. Additionally, NAB has requested the records of wheat purchased from the Mirpurkhas, Larkana, Sukkur, Hyderabad, and Shaheed Benazirabad divisions.
NAB has also requested the wheat procurement records for the years 2021-22 and 2022-23 from the Sindh Food Department, along with details of the current wheat stock.
It is noteworthy that the Sindh Food Department had taken loans from banks on interest to purchase billions of rupees worth of wheat, and it was revealed that the department had suffered a loss of Rs. 80 billion in the wheat procurement process. This loss was disclosed in a summary sent by the Finance Department to the Sindh Government.
