Islamabad:For the past week, hundreds of thousands of mobile data users across the country have been severely affected by disruptions in WhatsApp services. This complaint has specifically emerged from users who rely solely on mobile data.
According to media reports, complaints filed by consumers of mobile data-providing companies have been verified. It has been observed that while calls and text messages on WhatsApp are being received as usual, transmission of media files such as videos and images is severely impacted.
In contrast, users connected to wired broadband or Wi-Fi experience no such issues and can send and receive media files on mobile networks as well. In other words, WhatsApp continues to function normally for Wi-Fi users.
The issue of media file uploading became particularly acute during the busiest hours of working days after Youm-e-Ashura, which remains unresolved. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has not issued any explanatory statement regarding the prolonged nature of this issue and its future prospects.
Currently, this restriction primarily affects mobile network users, presenting challenges for them to access social media platforms through various internet service providers of cellular companies.
According to sources, this restriction has affected both Instagram and WhatsApp. Initially set to expire by July 17, it seems the government is uncertain about the correct procedure for lifting or extending this restriction.
