Military Court Trials for Civilians Case Adjourned by SC Bench

Islamabad:A seven-member constitutional bench, led by Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, heard the case regarding the trial of civilians in military courts. During the proceedings, the Additional Attorney General requested the court to adjourn the hearing due to the illness of the Ministry of Defence’s counsel, Khawaja Haris, who was suffering from stomach issues and could not attend the session.

The court granted the request and postponed the hearing until Thursday.

Additionally, during the proceedings, prominent lawyer Latif Khosa’s request to transfer detainees to regular jails was rejected by the constitutional bench. Khosa argued that at least some form of meetings with detainees could be facilitated if they were moved to regular prisons. However, Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan clarified that the Attorney General had already assured the court regarding the issue of detainee meetings, urging that the focus should remain on the case at hand and not shift to unrelated matters.

The case revolves around the legality and procedure of trying civilians in military courts, a highly sensitive and significant issue in Pakistan’s judicial and legal discourse.
