Memorandum Signed Between Social Organization Women Resource Center and Balochistan Women Commission

Quetta:On Monday, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Women Resource Center and the Balochistan Women Commission regarding collaboration on women’s rights issues. The signing ceremony took place at the Sui Secretariat in Quetta, where Director of Women Resource Center Ahmad Raza Khan and Chairperson of Balochistan Women Commission Fouzia Shahin signed the memorandum.

Present at the occasion were Sardar Khan Bughti, Secretary for Women Development, retired judge Tahira Baloch, Ashfaq Mengal, Incharge Shelter Home Quetta Rubina Zahri, Incharge Shelter Home Sibi Rakhshanda, Shaista Khan, Sahar, Faiza Malik, Seema Batool, and Anwar Baloch.

Director Ahmad Raza Khan of Women Resource Center stated that the objective of their collaboration with the Women Commission is to work on women’s rights issues. The aim of this memorandum is to pass the Balochistan Women Protection Bill 2024 and the Balochistan Child Marriage Restraint Act 2024 through the provincial assembly to ensure protection of women’s rights.

Fouzia Shahin, Chairperson of Balochistan Women Commission, mentioned that the Balochistan Women Protection Bill 2024 has already been approved, and their efforts are focused on securing its passage from the cabinet to the Balochistan Assembly. She emphasized that the purpose of this law is to provide protection against violence to women in Balochistan. She stressed the urgency of passing this law, which includes provisions for protection, skills development, medical assistance, and compensation for affected women.

Representatives from Women Resource Center and Chairperson Fouzia Shahin of Balochistan Women Commission pledged to work on all laws related to women and to prioritize work on current two bills.
