Quetta:Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani, a leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, has criticized the recent installation of a fence along the Pak-Afghan border, citing it as a restriction on free movement across both sides of the border. Sherani expressed silent support for the installation of the border fence and opposition to the passport requirement as contradictory measures. He urged the government to adopt a pragmatic approach regarding the Chaman border situation that meets both the government’s needs and reduces public inconvenience.
Sherani emphasized the responsibility of political leadership to inform people based on factual realities rather than delivering inflammatory speeches, which he likened to a remedy for pain rather than a demand for goodwill from those supporting the demands of political parties in Chaman. He questioned to what extent the demands of the PLAT have been addressed through discussions with responsible circles, stressing that while establishment agencies feel the compulsion of international needs, their personal compassion should align with the public.
Calling for governmental policies aimed at public convenience rather than complicating public issues, Sherani advocated for establishing policies that prevent the perception of cruelty and insensitivity towards public issues related to ruling classes. He highlighted the existence of special exceptional laws on an international level that envision relaxation in visa regimes and border trade. In such special circumstances, he warned against the division caused by border lines reaching cemeteries and mosques and the difficulty in meeting even blood relatives.
Sherani underscored the necessity for governments to formulate procedures beyond ordinary laws in international settings.
