Quetta:Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman, a member of the Balochistan Assembly and leader of the Haq Do Tehreek, has expressed his willingness to mediate between the government and protesters. In an interview with a private TV channel in Quetta, he stated that he is prepared to play a role in mediation, provided the government restores access to roads and mobile networks, which are currently blocked.
Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman criticized the government for not consulting him on the issues concerning Gwadar, despite being elected as a representative from the area. He suggested that had he been consulted, he could have provided valuable advice.
He emphasized that his mediation efforts will not be symbolic but will require concrete steps from the government, including reopening roads and mobile networks to facilitate meaningful dialogue. He argued that without these conditions being met, it would be challenging to address the issues effectively.
Rehman also expressed his belief that the Balochistan government is ineffective, having felt its inadequacy firsthand while being part of it. He vowed to play a robust role in the opposition within the Balochistan Assembly, rejecting any labels of “friendly opposition.” He condemned the use of force, which he believes has exacerbated the province’s issues, and criticized the parliament for failing to address the concerns. Rehman stressed that non-political actors cannot resolve Balochistan’s problems and urged that political decisions be made by experienced political figures.
