Maulana Fazlur Rehman Criticizes Parliament’s Legitimacy and Urges Unity Against Israel

Islamabad:Maulana Fazlur Rehman, head of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), has voiced strong objections to any constitutional amendments proposed by the current parliament, which he deems illegitimate. He stated that such significant changes would be unjust and emphasized that his party will remain vigilant against electoral fraud.

In a press conference, he highlighted the increasing sense of alienation among the people and condemned the government’s heavy-handed tactics. Rehman remarked, “We have made it clear that we will not be taken lightly; no matter the extent of rigging, we will remain in the field.”

Discussing the regional context, he warned that Israel aims to expand its aggression beyond Palestine into the Arab world, urging a collective defensive strategy among Muslim nations. He emphasized the need for countries like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Egypt to unite for the defense of the Islamic and Arab worlds.

Rehman reaffirmed his commitment to the ongoing struggle for the liberation of Al-Aqsa, stating that jihad will continue until the mosque is free. He also expressed solidarity with groups like Hezbollah, underscoring the significance of resilience in the face of Israeli aggression.

Responding to concerns about electoral integrity, he reiterated that his party would take to the streets if any electoral fraud occurred. He criticized the current parliament for lacking a mandate to make constitutional amendments, insisting that true representatives of the people should be elected.

Rehman also touched on judicial reforms, asserting that any changes should not serve political agendas and must respect the principles established in the 2006 constitutional court agreement.

In reaction to remarks from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister, he deemed them childish, pointing out the province’s dire security situation. He called for allowing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to hold rallies without obstruction, advocating for democratic expression and engagement.
