Maulana Fazlur Rehman Claims Success in Balancing Politics and Religious Leadership

Islamabad:The leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, recently remarked that for the first time, both the ruling government and opposition parties were praising him. In a speech at Jamia Khair-ul-Madaris in Multan, he claimed that this time, he successfully navigated both sides of politics, referring to it as “this molvi putting a foot on two boats and crossing over.”
Maulana Fazlur Rehman discussed his active involvement in politics, stating that most of his time is spent in the political arena, where he regularly interacts with politicians. He pointed out the challenge of demanding Islam’s principles from Muslim rulers, calling it one of the most difficult tasks.
The JUI leader dismissed criticism about the party’s political involvement, stating that questioning their political objectives is trivial. He emphasized that achieving anything from politicians is not a difficult task, in contrast to what people often perceive.
Furthermore, Maulana Fazlur Rehman highlighted that his involvement in politics was essential in leading the fight for the belief in the finality of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He noted that despite having only eight members in the National Assembly, JUI has not abandoned its struggle for its ideological causes.
He concluded by saying that it was the first time he had witnessed both the ruling party and opposition praising him, and that he always seizes such opportunities. Referring to the guidance of his predecessors, he stated that they taught him to combine religious leadership with political engagement.
