Rawalpindi: Addressing a press conference at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Hafiz Na’eem-ul-Rahman declared that their protest will not cease until the rights of 250 million people are ensured. He emphasized that their aim is not personal but to hold the government accountable. Rahman criticized the government’s economic policies, accusing them of burdening the masses while protecting the interests of the elite and feudal lords.
“We could have reached D-Chowk and disrupted the sit-ins there, but we chose not to,” Rahman asserted, adding that their movement will expand with the arrival of more convoys. He highlighted concerns over rising electricity prices and the plight of salaried class, vowing to continue their pressure until demands are met.
Rahman also criticized the role of bureaucracy, military bureaus, and capitalist forces in dictating economic policies, stressing their demand to reduce electricity prices. He warned that unless negotiations are conducted fairly and salaries are not cut, their pressure will only intensify nationwide.
“We will demonstrate how to run the economy. This protest will not be limited here; it will spread across the country,” Rahman affirmed, promising relief measures for the people. He underscored ongoing consultations and readiness for further dialogue, while urging the government to engage seriously with their demands.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader concluded by dismissing government allegations against Liaquat Baloch, emphasizing their commitment to genuine relief for the people and asserting their readiness to escalate their actions if necessary.
