Maryam Watoo Defends Sister Bushra Bibi, Claims She Was Forced to Leave D-Chowk
ISLAMABAD:Maryam Watoo, the sister of Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, has strongly defended her sister against accusations regarding her departure from the D-Chowk protest. Speaking on a private TV channel, Maryam Watoo asserted that Bushra Bibi was “forced” to leave the protest site and did not leave voluntarily.
Maryam, who is also a prominent figure in the political circles, explained that she had been in contact with Bushra Bibi, and according to her, Bushra was unaware of her location at the time and had no knowledge of Ali Amin Gandapur’s press conference.
“Bushra Bibi did not attend Ali Amin Gandapur’s press conference, contrary to what PTI is claiming. When I finally spoke to her, she said she wanted to remain at the protest site. However, her phone was switched off, as were the phones of those who were with her. She was being held incommunicado,” Maryam revealed.
Maryam further emphasized that Bushra Bibi had been subjected to harsh treatment while in jail, stating that she endured nine months of imprisonment with great courage. “This isn’t just a numbers game; a human life is incredibly precious. We never expected that innocent people would be shot at like this during the protests,” she added.
Discussing the protests in Islamabad, Maryam noted that the people protesting were their own supporters, and local residents were providing food and water to the protesters. “The people of Islamabad showed great hospitality by helping the protesters with food and water,” she said.
Maryam Watoo also reiterated her stance that all the cases against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were “false” and politically motivated. “Both of them were subjected to severe mistreatment during their time in jail, but they are still bravely facing all the charges against them,” she added.
Her remarks come amid ongoing political tensions, with PTI leadership and supporters continuing to face legal challenges and accusations.
