Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing solar panels to households consuming up to 500 units of electricity. The approval for the “Roshan Gharana” program was granted during a cabinet meeting yesterday.
Under this initiative, the Punjab government will provide solar systems to millions of consumers, covering 50 to 500 units of electricity usage. The government will bear 90% of the solar panel costs, with consumers contributing the remaining 10% through easy installments spread over five years. Particularly in winters, the cost of solar panels will be significantly subsidized, entirely funded by the government.
Furthermore, the program allows for a transparent mechanism to determine the balance between government-supplied and solar-generated electricity based on consumer needs. This decision comes amidst rising electricity costs and energy crises.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized that no household will be left alone in challenging times, aiming to mitigate the effects of past economic downturns on the public. She assured that after five years, households will no longer face current issues.
