Maria B Slams ‘Barzakh’ Director Asim Abbasi, Announces Legal Action
Karachi: Prominent Pakistani fashion designer Maria B has once again voiced her opposition to same-sex relationships, this time targeting Asim Abbasi, the director of the web series ‘Barzakh’. In a statement posted on her official Instagram account, Maria B addressed Abbasi directly, asserting that the Pakistani audience would not become accustomed to his “agenda” and would not allow such “filth” to be spread among their children.
Maria B criticized ‘Barzakh’ for depicting what she described as the “most sinful acts” according to Islamic teachings, including zina (fornication), obscenity, and homosexuality. She sarcastically remarked that Abbasi had seemingly compiled a list of the gravest sins mentioned in the Quran and turned it into a series, accusing him of promoting these sins, along with sorcery and inappropriate content.
The designer alleged that the team behind ‘Barzakh’ had played with the emotions of the 250 million people of Pakistan for a few million rupees and betrayed their trust. She vowed that their agenda would not succeed, pledging that Pakistani citizens and parents would unite to raise their voices against it and protect their children.
Maria B further stated that they would take legal action against the series for promoting obscenity, claiming that the victory would be theirs. The controversy surrounds the third episode of ‘Barzakh,’ which featured romantic and suggestive scenes between two male characters. The series, written and directed by Asim Abbasi, is produced by Indian producers for the Indian streaming platform ZEE5.
