Islamabad:Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, to discuss the vital role of the Pakistan Army in promoting peace and stability in the region.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Anwar acknowledged the professional expertise and sacrifices made by the Pakistan Army in combating terrorism. The two leaders explored bilateral strategic interests, regional security, and defense cooperation, emphasizing the need to strengthen military relations between Malaysia and Pakistan.
The Malaysian Prime Minister invited General Munir to visit Malaysia, expressing appreciation for the Pakistan Army’s efforts in maintaining law and order. In response, General Munir thanked Prime Minister Anwar for the invitation and highlighted the success of his recent visit to Pakistan, which he believed would further enhance the historical ties between the two nations.
Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the Nishan-e-Pakistan, the highest civilian honor, upon Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during a formal ceremony in Islamabad. The event was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Zardari, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Chairman of the Senate, federal ministers, and various dignitaries.
General Munir, along with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Sahir Shamshad Mirza and other military leaders, also attended the ceremony. Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and provincial governors and chief ministers were present.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is currently on a three-day official visit to Pakistan, during which he has held meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Zardari, and General Munir, with additional meetings scheduled.
