Major Water Projects in Pakistan Facing Delays, Reveals Ministry Report

Islamabad: A report presented by the Ministry of Water Resources to the Public Accounts Committee has revealed that all major water projects in Pakistan are experiencing significant delays.
According to the report, out of seven key water-related projects, only one has reached 50% completion. The report also highlights that Pakistan is among the countries with the lowest water storage capacity, with per capita water availability at just 1,000 cubic meters.
Progress on major projects is as follows:
Only 15% of work on the Diamer Bhasha Dam has been completed.
Dasu Dam construction has reached 21% completion.
Mohmand Dam stands at 33% completion.
Kurram Tangi Dam, which was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 2016, is the most advanced with 75% of the work completed.
Senator Saleem Mandviwalla expressed concern over the ministry’s performance, stating it is surprising that not a single project has been fully completed.
The delay in these crucial water infrastructure projects raises serious concerns for a country already grappling with water scarcity.
