Dhaka: Following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina Wajed and her departure to India, a major reshuffle has occurred within the Bangladeshi military. According to international news agencies, Major General Ziaul Hassan has been dismissed from his position without any given reason.
Major General Ziaul Hassan was closely associated with Sheikh Hasina Wajed and was the head of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC), an agency under the Ministry of Home Affairs. This organization was responsible for monitoring social media accounts and recording phone calls as part of national security. Additionally, the NTMC handled the recording of communication content, data collection, and surveillance of domestic situations.
In the military’s public relations statement, it was announced that Lieutenant General Mohammad Saif Alam has been appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, while Lieutenant General Mujibur Rahman has been named the General Officer Commanding of the Army Training and Doctrine Command.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Tabrez Shams Chowdhury has been assigned as the Quartermaster General of the Army, and Lieutenant General Mohammad Mujibur Rahman has been designated as the Army’s Quartermaster General. Anwar Shamim has been appointed as the Army Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Mohammad Shaheen Haque as the Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), and Major General ASM Rizwan Rahman as the Director General of the NTMC.
The statement also confirmed the dismissal of Major General Ziaul Hassan.
It is worth noting that the previous day, Army General Waqar-ul-Zaman announced in a press conference that Sheikh Hasina Wajed had resigned and left for India, with plans to establish a caretaker government in the country.
