Major Car Brands to Discontinue Iconic Models in 2024 for Electric Vehicle Transition

Islamabad:The automotive industry is making a significant shift towards electrification, with several iconic car models set to be discontinued in 2024 to make way for environmentally-friendly electric vehicles (EVs). As part of this transition, renowned automobile manufacturers are prioritizing the development of electric cars to align with global sustainability goals.

Here are some major models that will be phased out:

1. **Jaguar**
Jaguar has announced that it will fully transition to electric luxury cars by 2025. The company will discontinue its popular combustion engine models, and is currently working on a new electric sedan under the Jaguar brand.

2. **Chevrolet Camaro**
General Motors (GM) will cease production of the Chevrolet Camaro, offering a special “Collector’s Edition” to honor the car’s legacy. However, the Camaro may make a comeback in an electric version in the near future.

3. **Toyota Venza**
After 2024, Toyota will discontinue its hybrid crossover SUV, the Venza. The new Toyota Crown Signia, a hybrid crossover with two rows of seating, will replace it.

4. **Ford Edge**
Ford will halt production of its midsize SUV, the Edge, in 2024. The company will focus on the production of Super Duty trucks at its Oakville Assembly Plant in Canada, in response to growing demand for Ford’s commercial vehicles.

5. **Nissan GT-R**
The iconic “Godzilla” Nissan GT-R will be retired in 2024. The last batch of the GT-R will include special editions, Takumi and Skyline. Nissan has also announced plans for an electric version of this iconic sports car in the future.

6. **Chevrolet Malibu**
The production of the Chevrolet Malibu will end in November 2024. GM’s Kansas Assembly Plant will shift focus to the production of new electric vehicles, particularly the Chevrolet Bolt as a replacement.

7. **Jeep Cherokee and Renegade**
Jeep will discontinue its two popular models, the Cherokee and Renegade. The Compass will become the most affordable SUV offered by the brand in the market.

8. **Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman**
Porsche will stop production of its gas-powered Boxster convertible and Cayman coupe by 2025. These models are expected to return as electric vehicles, making a strong impact in the electric sports car market.

This shift towards electric vehicles is part of the broader global trend to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable automotive solutions. While some of these iconic cars will be missed by enthusiasts, the introduction of their electric counterparts is expected to revolutionize the market with improved performance and sustainability.
