Mahmood Khan Achakzai Claims Zardari Met with Maulana for Two-Thirds Majority, Calls for Broad Investigations
Mardan:Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Chairman of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, has claimed that Asif Ali Zardari met with Maulana Fazlur Rehman to discuss securing a two-thirds majority. Addressing a “Meet the Press” event at the Mardan Press Club, Achakzai emphasized the need for investigations beyond the events of May 9, suggesting that issues surrounding political donations and party funding also warrant scrutiny.
Achakzai criticized the current political environment, stating that Pakistan’s right to governance is being compromised. He argued that political parties are accepting bribes under the guise of donations and that the legitimacy of governance is being undermined.
Reflecting on historical events, Achakzai asserted that if the constitution had been upheld, Pakistan might not have faced its past crises, including the execution of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. He described Pakistan as being in a state of turmoil, with internal issues plaguing the nation.
The senior politician stressed that all ethnic groups within Pakistan should be granted equal rights and that the country is not seeking charity but rather asserting its rights. He underscored the necessity for constitutional supremacy and the acknowledgment of Parliament as the source of power for the effective governance of the country.
Achakzai also revealed that he had been offered a ministerial position by Nawaz Sharif in the past but had declined the offer.
