Lahore: Pakistani actress Mahira Khan recently revealed that she was offered a role in the renowned web series Heeramandi by Indian filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali 15 years ago.
In a recent interview, Mahira shared that she was in Mumbai attending a friend’s wedding when the Heeramandi offer came her way. She explained that her friend was at fashion designers Rizwan and Maheen Baig’s studio to choose her wedding outfit, where a conversation about searching for a Pakistani actress for Heeramandi was taking place.
Mahira’s friend suggested that Rizwan Baig consider Mahira for the role. At the time, Mahira was working as a VJ on television. This led to a meeting with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who expressed interest in casting her for the series.
However, Mahira recalled that shortly after this, the political situation between India and Pakistan became tense, and Bhansali was busy working on the debut film of Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. Due to these circumstances, the opportunity never materialized.
Mahira Khan later made her Bollywood debut with the 2017 film Raees, opposite Shah Rukh Khan, but Heeramandi remains a missed opportunity from her early career.
