Los Angeles / Karachi:Pakistani superstar Mahira Khan recently met Oneja Andrew Robinson — the American woman who made headlines after traveling to Karachi in search of love. A video of their meeting has gone viral on social media, showing the two sharing a heartfelt moment.
During their encounter in the U.S., Oneja fondly recalled her time in Pakistan, particularly her friendship with Inspector Shabana, a female police officer she had bonded with during her difficult stay in Karachi. In a warm gesture, Mahira joined in, saying, “Hello Shabana!” on camera.
Oneja also couldn’t help but remember Karachi’s famous chicken biryani, expressing her love for the dish.

Oneja Andrew Robinson, a New York resident, came to Pakistan on October 11 on a one-month tourist visa to meet 19-year-old Nidal Memon, a resident of Karachi’s Garden area, whom she had fallen in love with online. While Nidal was ready to marry her, his family opposed the union.
After her visa expired and her return ticket lapsed, Oneja remained in Karachi, reportedly living on the streets at times. She was eventually detained at Karachi Airport in January when she tried to leave the country without proper documentation. Authorities later granted her a 15-day exit permit, arranged through the intervention of the Sindh Governor and a local charity.
However, in a surprising turn, she refused to board her flight back to the U.S. and continued to stay in Karachi. She was later diagnosed with **bipolar disorder** and treated at Jinnah Hospital, where she was eventually deemed fit for travel by a medical board.
After spending 120 turbulent days in Pakistan, Oneja finally returned to the U.S. in February — but not without leaving behind a unique and emotional story that captured public attention.
