LIVE California Fires: New Kenneth fire erupts, Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, Woodley, Sunset fires burn
At least 10 people have been killed and at least 180,000 forced to evacuate as wildfires rage across Los Angeles, with authorities expecting the death toll to increase. There are five active blazes, including the Palisades Fire, which has burned 19,978 acres and is “one of the most destructive fires in the history of Los Angeles,” the city’s fire chief said, while the Eaton Fire has burned 13,690 acres. The Kenneth Fire, which ignited Thursday in the Calabasas and Hidden Hills areas, grew to almost 1,000 acres in mere hours. In total, the wildfires have burned through more than 35,000 acres and destroyed an estimated 10,000 buildings, officials say, while critical fire conditions could continue into the weekend. President Joe Biden said the federal government will cover all of the costs for the initial disaster response to the wildfires.
