Quetta :On the anniversary of the 8th August martyrs, prominent lawyer leaders, including former Supreme Court Bar President Ali Ahmed Kurd, Senator Hamid Khan, Munir Ahmed Kakakhel, and others, addressed a condolence reference at the Balochistan High Court. They called on the government to address the issue of missing persons in Balochistan and ensure the implementation of the judicial commission’s recommendations concerning the 8th August tragedy.
The speakers emphasized the sacrifices lawyers have made for the judiciary’s dignity and the country’s democracy. They criticized the silence of the courts and the ineffective response to the plight of the missing persons, highlighting the ongoing distress of their families. They warned that if terrorism charges against lawyers were not withdrawn, they would initiate a movement from Lahore in September.
The speakers underscored that lawyers’ unity and sacrifice have been crucial in upholding democracy, and stressed the need for the legal community to reunite as they did in 2007. They lamented that political figures often exploit lawyers for their agendas and called for a reevaluation of their strategies.
They also noted that the judiciary, despite its role in ensuring justice, has failed to act on the missing persons’ issue, particularly affecting Balochistan. The speakers urged that if the Chief Justice fails to resolve this issue, it will reflect poorly on the judiciary’s legacy. The event concluded with a call for the bar to play a pivotal role in pushing for necessary changes and addressing the political and legal challenges facing the country.
