Lawyers’ Community Rejects 26th Constitutional Amendment Through Historic Election Wins

Quetta:Leaders of the All Pakistan Lawyers Action Committee, Ali Ahmed Kurd and Rahib Khan Bledi Advocate, issued a joint statement expressing that the recent results of the elections held at Lahore High Court Bar Association, Islamabad High Court Bar Association, and Rawalpindi High Court Bar Association have delivered a clear message to the powerful circles, the administration, and the judiciary.
The legal community has firmly expressed its position by rejecting the controversial 26th Constitutional Amendment, which weakens the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law. The overwhelming victories of the newly elected Presidents, Asif Naswana in Lahore, Wajid Gilani in Islamabad, and Ahsen Hamidullah in Rawalpindi, along with their cabinets, demonstrate that lawyers strongly oppose the amendment and fully support those who stand against it.
These victories have been described as a referendum against the 26th Constitutional Amendment and a strong condemnation of the administration’s efforts to undermine judicial independence. The legal community has loudly defended the Constitution, the principles of the separation of powers, and the fundamental rights of the people of Pakistan.
The statement further highlighted that the successful convention on February 18, 2025, marked a significant moment in which the legal community categorically rejected the amendment. The statement congratulated all the successful candidates in the elections held in Lahore, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi High Court Bar Associations for their remarkable success.
The All Pakistan Lawyers Action Committee made it clear that it will continue to protest against the 26th Constitutional Amendment through its platform, maintaining its commitment to safeguarding the independence of the judiciary and the rights enshrined in the Constitution.
